Some stories are timeless. Some myths seem to belong to no single age or culture. And sometimes, music written centuries apart can reveal unexpected connections.

The Rite of Spring – Baroque Edition begins with a story: a pagan ritual, immortalised by Igor Stravinsky in one of the most radical and influential works of the twentieth century. But what happens when this music is placed in conversation with the Baroque period?

Here, rhythms, melodies, gestures and musical ideas travel across two centuries, creating unexpected echoes between worlds that might at first seem impossibly far apart. Baroque refinement encounters Stravinsky’s raw rhythmic energy; familiar melodies appear in new surroundings; old and new begin to mirror one another.

Through works by Biber, Purcell and Corelli, arrangements and original compositions, the programme reimagines The Rite of Spring from a Baroque perspective—not as a historical reconstruction, but as a playful and provocative musical encounter. Its originality and fresh perspective were recognised in 2024, when the programme was awarded First Prize in Early Music Vancouver’s Emerging Artist Competition and First Prize in Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci.

The programme also marked the beginning of the ensemble’s artistic journey, and has since travelled beyond its original context, reaching audiences across Europe.
